How to find Smallford

By Car

Located between St Albans and Hatfield, Smallford is accessible by car via either Oaklands Lane or the A1057 Hatfield Road from St Albans and via Hatfield Road from Hatfield.  The A414 Dual Carriageway runs south of Smallford and connects between the M1 and A1 motorways.

By Train

St Albans is home to two stations, the St Albans Abbey station near to Verulamium Park which links to Watford lines to the West and the main-line St Albans Thames Link, First Capital Connect, Train Station that links to Bedford and London.  Similarly, Hatfield Station, also operated by First Capital Connect, is nearby and easily accessible from both the North and the South.

From these stations, buses and taxis are readily available – just ask to be driven to Smallford.

By Bicycle / Foot

Due in part to the closure of the St Albans Hatfield Railway, there now exists the Alban Way cycle & foot path which still connects St Albans to Hatfield via a relatively countrified route, doubling as a wildlife corridor.  A map of the route is provided at this link here.  Similarly, you can download a PDF file pointing out some of the points of interest along the route here.

Smallford is also accessible by Hatfield Road which has a footpath along it’s length.  Smallford is also accessible from the North and the South, with a footpath along Station Road as well as along most of Oaklands and Sandpit Lane.

By Bus

Several buses travel along Hatfield Road from both St Albans and Hatfield directions.  These include the 620, 712 & 714 Unobus.  Timetables are available both online here and at each Train station or bus stop along the routes.
