This extract from a map of the St Albans to Hatfield GNR railway line clearly shows Smallford Station having previously been named Springfield Station. The correction has been made by pen on the original document which is held at The National Archives in Kew (RAIL 796/100).
The numbering on the map relates to land which was purchased in order to build the railway line.
