Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the Opening of the Hatfield-St Albans Railway Line
The flier above was delivered to many homes along and close to the St Albans section of The Alban Way during the week beginning 5th October, Whether-or-not you received one, knowing about it could be a good reason to celebrate! The Alban Way is what remains of the Hatfield-St Albans Railway Line. This October will see the 150th Anniversary of the opening of this line and, guess what – we’re planning some celebrations – and you’d be very welcome to join us!
A Touch of Colour for Smallford Station 1933
With the recent find of a film titled, “Monty’s Misfortune”, 1933 footage of Smallford Station was rediscovered for the first time in many years. Visible in the footage, the Station was clad with several advertisements but determining what they depict is not clear on a few. A little detective work later, several of the adverts have been identified as you can see from these retrospective stills taken from the 1933 film. A little Photoshop magic later and the colourful adverts have been superimposed over the film frame to demonstrate a bit of colour the 1933 footage was unable to capture.
